The ceremony, at the Belweder Palace in Warsaw, will have invited guests including President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso and President of European Parliament Jerzy Buzek.

On Thursday morning, the head of the National Security Bureau, Aleksander Szczyglo, said that the president will sign the Treaty on Sunday. Later, leader of the Law and Justice party, and the president’s twin brother, Jarosław Kaczyński, said that Szczyglo had been "misinformed", as President Kaczyński will be in the Vatican on Sunday.

Meanwhile, president of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Kraus has asked Swedish PM Fredrik Reinfeldt, the current holder of the EU presidency. to include a footnote to the Lisbon Treaty concerning the Charter of Fundamental Rights -  which deals with social issues equal to all EU citizens - before he will sign it.

"I told him this is the wrong message at the wrong time for the EU,” said Reinfeldt, quoted by the Reuters news agency.

The treaty is currently in the Constitutional Tribunal in Prague after senators supportive of President Klaus sent it there to see if it was compatible with Czech law.

When President Kaczynski signs the document in Warsaw on Saturday, the Czech Republic will be the only one in the EU not to have ratified the Lisbon Treaty. (pg)
