Poland and Ukraine have polished the details of a deal to be signed before the end of this year on a joint university.
The university will be based both in the eastern Polish city of Lublin and in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv and will be an independent institution, training Polish and Ukrainian students, as well as young people from other countries.
Professor Jerzy Pomianowski, an expert in Polish-Ukrainian relations, says the university will prepare the future elites of Ukraine and Poland, which will not harbor mutual grudges nor will they operate under the impact of the black chapters in common history.
Its patron will be Jerzy Giedroyc, the renowned editor the Kultura leading Polish émigré literary journal published between 1947 and 2000, who played an important role in promoting reconciliation between Poland and Ukraine, supporting its independence well before the collapse of the Soviet empire.
