Poland receives anti-accolade at COP 15

11.12.2009 09:57

Yes, but is Poland ready to switch from coal?

At the ongoing climate meet in Copenhagen, Poland has received the anti-accolade of “Fossil of the Day” by the Climate Action Network.

CAN awards the prize to the country which, according to the environmental group, blocks negotiations in the fight against climate change.

Poland was awarded First Prize after Poland’s European Minister Dowgielewicz said that the EU’s plan to cut CO2 emissions by 30 percent has no chance of being accepted by all members of the 27-member bloc.

Dowgielewicz argued at the conference in Copenhagen that most of the EU states are against raising the bar on carbon emissions, meaning that the 20 percent cut 2020 remains as the key goal. (jb)

  • Marek c. 11.12.2009 19:31 The state of the Polish economy and Poland’s struggle to build an advance economy from what is currently a small and modest economic structure is due solely to foreign outrages against Poland in the last 70 years.

Poland’s economic position stands today as a result of German and Russian aggression with the complicity of the West, which betrayed Poland after the end WW2.

The first priority of reconstruction must be developing a world class economy and therefore the burden of climate change must be fully assume by the aggressor nations and the western democracy’s such as the US and the UK whom betrayed Poland.

Not until Poland’s economy reaches world-class status can there be any conversation of burden sharing with respect to climate change.

  • Art 12.12.2009 05:10 First "global cooling", then "global warming" now "climate change". This politically motivated pseudo science can be equated to alchemy of the middle ages. After all, the farmers almanac has a better record of predicting long tern weather, than the secret recipes for global "climate change " models. The chameleon has changed it colors from red to green, in order to drive its political agenda. Art
  • Alex 12.12.2009 07:02 Both Poland and Russia are on the same side in this debate. Allegedly the Russian hackers unveiled the climategate. Alex
  • Jason 12.12.2009 09:35 Thank God for the Russian hackers, its hard to believe a gas that makes up .01% of the air is somehow responsible for the natural cycle in the air. In either case, methane gas is much more dangerous for the atmosphere, why don't we start to slaughter all the cows and all the other animals? Jason
  • Adrian 12.12.2009 09:41 Who cares about the reward, last time I checked its the western countries that have done the most polluting over the decades, even today Poland with its coal energy plants doesn't pollute as much as the west on a per capita basis. And this is only if the science is even sound which I doubt, the global warming scare is a great way for scientists to keep their funding. Adrian
  • Staszek 12.12.2009 09:46 I sort of agree Adrian, I don't believe in that bs either, reducing pollution is a good thing regardless if it causes global warming or not however doesn't mean must destroy our economy in the process. Staszek
  • Stanczyk-(Matejki) 12.12.2009 15:25 Agreed with Marek C. Nearly 2 centuries of economic self-determination & output were funneled to 3 parasites, let Poland's detractors take note of the catalyst before squawking "backwardness"....... Stanczyk-(Matejki)
  • Stanczyk-(Matejki) 12.12.2009 15:30 A well documented English language version of the WWII "allies" attitude toward Poland would be "I Saw Poland Betrayed" by American ambassador Bliss-Lane. Stanczyk-(Matejki)
