Magda Lukaszewicz, a seventeen-year-old high school student coming from Poland stands a big chance of being elected the youngest councilwoman in Sweden.
She will come of age a few days before the elections planned for September 19 which has drawn the attention of critics saying she is too young for the office.
Łukaszewicz, who has been living in the Swedish suburb of Jaerfaella, has already secured the nomination of the Swedish Moderate Party Moderata samlingspartiet (M) after the primary elections which guarantees her a high position on its election list.
She has been engaged in politics since the age of 15. Apart from going to school she works at a nursing home and is a gymnastics coach. She visits Poland often and speak Polish at home in Sweden.
Magda Lukaszewicz claims she does not want to make special references to her home country in her election campaign. “I want to represent Swedes, Poles or Turks the same way” she stressed in an interview with the Polish News Agency PAP. (di)
