Prince Charles has visited the Białowieża National Park in the north east of Poland.
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, stayed in Warsaw, however, with the British Embassy in Warsaw saying she has “back problems”.
Białowieża National Park is Europe’s only remaining primeval forest, which is home to the largest surviving herd of European bison. Prince Charles met with representatives of several organizations involved in protecting the area’s natural environment.
The Duchess of Cornwall will be spending the day in the capital, where she will be visiting the newly opened Chopin museum.
Prince Charles also visited a 19th-century mosque this morning in the village of Kruszyniany which is populated by descendants of Tatars who constitute much of Poland’s Muslim minority of some 5, 000.
Later in the day, back in Warsaw, Prince Charles is to have a meeting with the Minister of Culture Bogdan Zdrojewski. According to some sources, the Prince is very interested in the plight of the rural country houses in the south-western region of Silesia. A recent report by SAVE Europe’s Heritage warns that these beautiful relics of architecture are in danger of being lost forever unless drastic action is taken to restore them. (mk/pg)
