Anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled on Krakow monument

14.03.2010 12:30

A monument in Krakow in memory of Jews who perished during Nazi occupation during WW II has been desecrated on the eve of the 67th anniversary of the liquidation of the Krakow ghetto.

Staff from the Board of Municipal Infrastructure and Transport in Krakow worked all night to remove “Jews out” and “Hitler was good” scrawled in red paint on the monument at the site of the Plaszow concentration camp, now in the suburb of Podgorze.

Police received a notification of the vandalism from city guards on Saturday afternoon. "On-site examinations are being carried out to assertain exactly when the incident happened," Anna Zbroja, spokesperson from the local police press office said.

Vice-President of the Auschwitz Council Stefan Wilkanowicz told Polskie Radio that the desecration on the even of the anniversary was “no coincidence”.

Organizers of the March of Remembrance which takes place every year on the ghettoes liquidation by the Nazis say that the event will still go ahead this year.

The march to the Memorial at Plaszow is held annually in memory of a forced march ordered by the Nazis in 1943 to the concentration and labour camp - described in the novel and movie Schindler’s List - where around 17,000 prisoners were kept under “slave labour” conditions. (pg)

Dear formerdweller,
To any Pole aware of his / her country's history vis-a-vis the Jews, such and act is lamentable as Poland is a Jewiish loving country. This is evidenced by the 500 years of the General Charter of Jewish Liberties that existed and was honoured from 1264 to 1795 when Poland itself was devoured by Russia, Prussia and Austria disappeared. The charter, also known as the Statute of Kalisz, allowed Jews to live in complete religious, social and political freedom leading to a flourishing of Jewish life. More recently, with the fall of Communism and the reemergence of true Poland, many Poles have done much to revive Jewish culture such as Jewish cultural festival in Krakow that has grown considerably. This paragraph is not sarcastic.

Contraraty to most believe Jewish musical heritage stems from Bessarabia (Extreme south Ukraine, Moldova/Romania). From "Hora", "doina", "Bulgar"...etc.

This is all a BS. If Poland was so anti Jewish why so many lived in Poland before WW2 and had more freedom than in ANY country in Europe. Let us wake up, this is all to get the Restitutions, the Jews want the money. But they should not get a penny till Poland gets it Restitutions for the Betrayal in Yalta in 1944.

Thad -

First, Yalta was in 1945, retard. Try opening a book sometime. Books are those things full of words, all lined up in little rows...have you ever seen one? Second, what does defacing a monument have to do with restitution? People like you are the best argument for abortion I could possibly think of.

Thad, restitution won't help you if you're too stupid to count the money Uśmiech
Yep, it's me again

The reason for this upsurge in anti-jewish behaviour is the totally unacceptable actions by right-wing Israel which is supported without question by the US and other western governments. The icing on this particular cake, is the use of the 'holocaust card' in a continual effort to make the rest of the world guilty. This has been successful for the last 60 years but is now beginning to wear thin for many people across the world.

To the last poster-

Are you a complete idiot? How many times did your mother have to try to drown you in the toilet to make you so mentally retarded? Nobody's playing any "holocaust card" here. Some idiots brought shame on themselves by cowardly attacking a holocaust monument. Too bad you're not intelligent enough to see the difference.
