Civic Platform voters support Komorowski

16.03.2010 07:56

Sixty percent of those who vote Civic Platform support Bronislaw Komorowski as their candidate for president, finds a survey by Gfk Polonia opinion pollsters.

The opinion poll puts the Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament significantly ahead of his rival Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski, who received 35 percent.

Komorowski is even more popular with men (68 percent) than woman Civic Platform voters (53 percent). Sikorski has more female support (40 percent) than males (28 percent).

Jaroslaw Gowin, a supporter of Sikorski in the party primary, is suspicious whether the preferences of Civic Platform voters are the same as those of the 45,000 paid up party members. “This is the first poll showing a considerable advantage Bronislaw Komorowski. However, guided by intuition, I believe that the results of primaries will be much more even than the survey shows,” he told Rzeczpospolita.

The survey was teken over the phone from a sample of 500. (pg)

according to statistics there are 29000 eu citizens of non Polish extraction witj temporary or permanent residency living in Poland, the majority in Warszawa. They can vote in local and eu elections, if PO encouraged them to register to vote, these people could ensure no chance of PIS ever gaining control of Warsaw again, if we were allowed to vote in general elections the embarrassment of the last presidentiial election also wouldnt happen. i suggest a ABK movement is started anyone but K*****I Looks like it will be a healthy contest between Komorowski and Sikorski followed by a filthy dirty desperate one between the victor of that and the president. After which one sincerely hopes Poles dump PIS in the dustbin of Polish politics and slams the lid shut as its surely where such antiquated primitve reactionary politics belong

Steve, Either Komorowski or Sikorski will do fine as president. Sikorski is a bit too ambitious for the role. He makes a great FM. However, I'm looking forward to Komorowski or Sikorski beating Kaczynski. Poles here in America love Kaczynski and his reactionist, hyper-Catholic, ultra-nationalist, xenophobic politics. They are completely blind to the fact that Poland became the laughing stock of Europe during the 2005-2007 Kaczynski-Giertych-Lepper coalition. Hopefully, Poles will never allow the far-right to govern their country again.

Tomasz - it beat me how Poles in the USA are allowed to retain their vote. likewise us brits out here, they dont pay tax in Poland, under us law arent allowed dual nationality yet are still voting as if Poland was in the 80's crazy really. Worth the wait to see Kaczynski's face when the results reveal the level of rejection and they both realise the party is over , and after the next general election it will be as they will receive so little support they wont have any funds from the electoral commision to continue
