Game in secondary school gets five pregnant

26.05.2010 14:56

Five young teenagers got pregnant after playing games with their school mates from a lower secondary school in the town of Ostroda, northern Poland.

Students, aged 14-15, played a game called “the sun” or “a star”. “Girls lay on the floor in a circle with their heads together and eyes closed and boys copulate with them, taking turns. The winner was the boy who managed to finish the intercourse last,” one of the students revealed.

The game resulted in several pregnancies. “This year five girls got pregnant, two of them have already given birth,” said Anna Czarnocka, the school’s headmaster.

The prosecutors who are investigating the case complain that parents and teachers of the teenagers from Ostroda are not willing to cooperate. Nobody talks about sex at school and there is no psychologist who would explain to the students that such games can lead to pregnancy. (mg)

I guess it is better to have Catholic religion classes in public school rather than sex education. Dummies - let the church take financial and other responsibility for these children (both the child mothers and their children)

Are the 14-15 year olds responsible in any way?

Are the parents responsible in any way?

Is secular, mass-mediated, largely "bezbogu," anything goes, commodified culture responsible in any way?

Last I heard, Catholic religion classes don't promote this kind of behavior. Indeed, they advise not to have premarital sex.

So tell me again why the Church is to blame here.
Duh?

Are Polish kids so stupid that they need a psychologist to explain to them that coital sex can lead to pregnancy?

Rump - maybe because the schools do not have sex ed classes and that available time is taken by religous classes that should be taught at church not in a public school environment. This is a pretty good example of why it may be wise to let the church teach religion and let public school teach the 3 R's and sex ed that clearly the kids are not getting at home. Perhaps parents also need some education in Poland as to how to discuss these things with their kids.

Yes they were stupid, but it's more of a problem of western anything goes secularism than religion. You can't blame everything on the catholic church, although with the present pope it is easy to do.

@p the p:

If teenagers don't know at 14-15, that coital sex can result in pregnancy, then there is little hope that they can be educated to understand this. What they need to learn is some sense of sexual morality that will make them think about "playing" such "games." It sounds like they learned from Madonna/Lady Gaga/Doda, etc. more than from the Catholic Church. Maybe these cultural-sexual icons should be held responsible. That said, I don't oppose responsible secularly-based sex education in schools.

The kids are all right! If I had girls so open-minded when I was in school I would have been a lot happier! The thing is, they should use condoms or pills but since the church prefers to forbid them, unwanted pregnancies occur.
This has nothing to do with western secularism.
