Over 8 million Poles still smoking

31.05.2010 08:35

A new report released for World No Tobacco Day shows that one in four women smoke during pregnancy.

Almost every other adult Pole admits to smoking in front of children, and 27 percent saying they smoke in the presence of pregnant women.

The report also states that the problems of passive smoking are still rife among children.

The genesis of World No Tobacco Day, also known in Poland as No Cigarette Day, came about in the 1970s in the USA. This is the nineteenth year it has been observed in Poland, with the campaign organised by “Health Promotion” Foundation.

Since the beginning of the no-smoking drive in Poland, over 3 million Poles have kicked in the habit. Over 8 million still smoke, amounting to 40 percent of men and 25 percent of women.

The new statistics show that lung cancer has replaced breast cancer as a top killer for Polish women who are diagnosed with any type of cancer. (jb)

Tobacco companies should apologise for the apparent genocide against this God-loving nation.

These foolish Polish parents who smoke in front of their children are guilty of child abuse. They should be forced to give up there children. There are plenty of Polish-American families who could provide a good home for these abused kids!
