Spaniards call Kaczynski evil

22.05.2009 11:52

Spanish socialists claim that Poland’s President Lech Kaczynski is one of the most evil politicians in the world and Poles are over-zealous Catholics.

Running up to the European Parliament elections, the Socialists’ Party of Catalonia (PSC) has released a poster showing top right-wing politicians from Europe and the US. It depicts former president of France Jacques Chirac, former president of the US George Bush, former PM of Spain Jose Maria Aznar, PM of Italy Silvio Berlusconi and president of Poland Lech Kaczynski.

The slogan on the red poster reads “They also want to change the world,” which is a hint at a popular election motto of Barack Obama. With the help of the poster, the Catalonian party is trying to convince the inhabitants of the region that the left has a better idea on how to rule the world.

The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), federated with the Socialists’ Party of Catalonia, and headed by Spain’s PM Jose Luis Zapatero, also refers to Poland in its EP election campaign.

The PSOE’s short film on the ‘threatening European right wing,’ is based on pan-European stereotypes.

It depicts a Polish priest who says that in Europe there is a place for only one religion; a German skinhead who maintains that homosexuality is a disease; an Italian farmer who thinks global warming is a lie; a Dutch waiter who complains about immigrants who steal jobs; an English woman who is enthusiastic about private health care; a French woman who supports capital punishment and a Spaniard who claims companies have the right to sack employees.

In the spot’s background, one can hear the European Union’s anthem and the slogan at the end of the film says “It doesn’t matter what they think, what matters is who they’re going to vote for.”

  • John 24.05.2009 15:55 Extreme Catholics, it doesn't matter if they are Polish, Italian, Irish, Spanish, Vatican or what, are the new talibans. Their hate speeches are dangerous, and courage ignorant people to act in an improper manner. "People who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it", so any hate speech towards immigrants or liberal thinkers could cause WW III. John
  • Joe 24.05.2009 16:47 The advertisement says more about the bigoted nature of the Spanish socialists than about the their Polish targets. Although I am no fan of Kaczynski or the attitude represented by the statement by the alleged Polish priest, I think Poles should recognize the tactics of the Spanish left as the same anti-Christian tripe that was espoused by the Communists in Poland from 1945-1989. There is no reason to seek approval from such people and much reason to fear the oppression that having them in power portends. Stay true to yourselves. Joe
  • Jasiek w japonii 25.05.2009 06:06 He is evil indeed, for he is apt to indulge himself to pursue his own personal desire at the expense of everything about Poland – from its international reputation to its economical and social sustainability. In this regard he much resembles King Zygmunt III Waza. Thus Prime Minister Donald Tusk reminds me of the then Great Crown Hetman Stanislaw Zolkiewski, who is one of whom I personally most look up to among Poles of all time.

"People who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." – That’s right.
