Members of parliament and politicians from abroad have begun marking the 20 year anniversary of Poland’s first post-war democratic elections in 1989.
Included in the celebrations in Warsaw are representatives of 25 national parliaments throughout Europe.
Guests of honor include President of the European Parliament Hans-Gert Poettering, head of the German Bundestag Norbert Lammert, leader of the Hungarian parliament Katalin Szili, deputy speaker of the British House of Commons Edward O’Hara and deputy chairman of Ukraine’s Supreme Council Mykola Tomenko.
Later in the afternoon all the invited foreign parliamentarians will be guests of Bronislaw Komorowski and Bogdan Borusewicz – speakers of the lower and upper house, respectively, and will attend a special concert by the National Philharmonic Orchestra in the Rose Garden at the Royal Lazienki Park. and then go on to the Palace on the Water for a dinner.
Tomorrow’s schedule includes a joint session of MPs and Senators with foreign parliamentary delegations and former president Lech Walesa. (ss/pg)
