A surrogate mother will go to court to fight for the child she gave birth to, writes Dziennik.
It is the first such case in Poland, and may end in the granting the woman the rights to the child since, according to Polish law, the woman who gives birth to a child is the legal mother.
The 32-year-old woman signed a deal last year with a couple from Warsaw: in return for a fee of 30 thousand zloty (around 7500 euro), she agreed to carry the baby as a ‘gestational carrier’, that is; carry the pregnancy to delivery after having been implanted with an embryo.
Everything seemed clear and simple until birth time, when the woman said it was her child and she intends to keep it.
The drama could be avoided if Polish law regulated surrogate motherhood in any way, writes the daily Dziennik, however, there are no laws in this respect. Similar cases have been tried in the US, where the court denied the surrogate mother the rights to keep the baby, or in Canada, where the court ruled that the only legal parent is the rightful father of the baby.
Smart drugs are the hit of the season on the Polish Baltic coast, declares Rzeczpospolita. These legal stimulants or enhancers are equally dangerous as narcotics, since they contain psychoactive chemicals.
Chaos, diablo or snow power are only some of the coulorful samplings of smart drugs which can be bought in over 50 stands located in the seaside resorts on the Baltic. Authorities are helpless, writes the paper. Deals for seasonal vending had been signed, but the stands were to sell souvenirs. Since smart drugs have not been made illegal in Poland, the stands cannot be removed – additionally, the majority of dealers advertise their stuff as collectors’ items.
The result ,writes Rzeczpospolita, is that the Baltic coast is packed with crowds of intoxicated youth, who eagerly improve their ‘night worn powers’ with smart drugs.
More on stimulants , the tabloid Super Express writes about a very enterprising young man who cultivated a huge field of marijuana on a rented plot of land. His misfortune was such that the owner decided to check how the intended plot of tomatoes was faring. Instead of red, ripe tomatoes the owner was confronted with huge bushes with ‘characteristic leaves,’ writes the daily. In no time at all, local police arrived on the spot and detained the young entrepreneur, who claimed that he cultivated marihuana to help his grandmother restore her eyesight . (adb/mmj)
