The CASE think tank’s new quarterly report predicts Poland’s economy slipping into recession in 2009.
Presented by Peter Gentle
But CASE (Centrum Analiz Spoleczno Ekonomicznych) also sees a bottoming out of the economic slowdown by the end of the year and some growth towards the middle of next. So green shoots maybe on the distant horizon!
And who better to talk about the latest quarterly report by CASE than the editor of the report, Maciej Krzak, who is in the studio this week. See the report at the CASE web site.
We also look at the economic arguments behind the latest squabbles between the government and President Lech Kaczynski, who gave the finance ministry a good lashing in his speech to the Sejm last week.
We strip away the politics and look at the arguments: do you increase public spending at a time of recession – as the US, UK, Germany and China are doing – or do you, like the Polish government, look for cuts and ‘sound’ public finances?
All that and a bulletin of finance news…
