‘I couldn’t stop Andrzej,’ says Mrs. Golota
“There was no need to fight Adamek, but Andrzej wanted to and I couldn’t stop him,” Mariola Golota, wife of the fallen legendary boxer, Andrzej Golota, told press Monday.
Adamek, 33-years-old, beat Golota, 41-years-old, in Saturday’s ‘Fight of the Century’ in Lodz, central Poland, to a full stadium ripe with celebrities and boxing fans and 8.1 million television viewers.
“I never want him entering the ring again,” added Mrs. Golota, a lawyer in Chicago in the United States, where the couple lives.
There is not yet any news as to whether or not Golota will officially retire following the match that has been deemed ‘embarassing’ by press and prompted Golota himself to apologize to fans for disappointing them.
Meanwhile, the victory pushed Tomek Adamek into 7th place worldwide in the Box Rec world active heavyweight rankings, a category the boxer just entered, weighing in at 97.25 kg on Friday’s official weighing before Saturday’s match. Golota has fallen from 46th to 60th place in the Box Rec ranking.
Following Adamek’s win over Golota, the boxer announced that he wants to fight the Klitscho brothers, top-ranked Ukrainian heavyweight boxers, in order to advance in the heavyweight category. (mmj)
