Krakow will definitely end up hosting some matches & rightly so!!

  • stevew 07.02.2010 10:22 don't know where all these fans will sleep i understand all major hotels are booked by the media, Warszawa faces a possible 250,000 extra people to deal with - no public toilets, not enough bars or restayrants or hotels, and public transport has no signs or anything in any foreign languages and unless an army of helpers who speak foreign languages is employed the police will have an absolute nightmare and wont control the fans , not to mention pkp cant even serve Polish people in their own language properly what they will do when 10,000 fans turn up at the station and find buying a ticket is impossible i shudder to think . i was also wondering how you get 55,000 people from saska kepa to centrum on one tram line safely and how you deal wit them all fancying a beer on nowy swiat ? Given it looks like little thought or understanding or advice sought from germany and england who held these championships before , i think a months holiday is order until its over, Poland wont get past the group stage anyway stevew
  • Roger - Australia 08.02.2010 03:48 Once again all the negative people crawl out of the woodwork.
Time and time again when there is a major event evryone comments that the event will not be ready on time.
When Greece was awared the Athens Olympics people
commented it was way behind schedule and would not be reday on time - It was ready on time.
The same was said about the Sydney - Australia Olympics
and transport and accommodation was a major problem.
It was ready on time. There was no problems with transport and accommodation It was organised and effecient which was commented by many visitors
Now people say that Poland and Ukraine Euro 2012 will
not be ready on time and transport and accommodation is a problem
It will be ready on time.
The harsh winter at the moment will slow progress but I have no doubt it will be reday on time.
The comment made about getting advice from Germany and England who have hosted such events.
Let me remind you that the Berlin Olympics was the only Olympics in history where security was breached and Athletes murded. After an inquiry it was found that German security was Incompetent, Disorganised, Inefficient and you (stevew)say that they should ask for advice from Germany. Also I will add that at a tennis tornament in Germay a tennis player was stabbed in the back, where was security.
Although the above comments are on security it also about organising and being efficient
I have notised on this site people have a go at different
nationalities. If you people have an educated and have some functioning brain cells and look at European history
every country in Europe has at some time in European history been a major power of Europe.

  • Steve 08.02.2010 05:54 Roger. Having read your ramble it's apparent that you have no idea what's happening in this part of Europe at the moment.

Poland has some issues but none that won't be fixed before the games commence. It also has fully prepared contingency plans in case one of the proposed stadiums doesn't make it. The odd bit of infrastructure may not make it won't be anything that can impede the games.

However, Ukraine is a different story. There a huge amount of economic problems over the border at the moment. Infrastructure is light years away from what already exists in Poland.

  • stevew 08.02.2010 09:41 no roger doesnt know what he is talking about - germany and the uk organised a euro championships without incidents of major disorder , germany the most profitable and peaceful world cup ever. poland has little security because of the easiness in bribing people if TVN can wander around warsaw aiport under planes on the tarmac unaided you can see what i mean. The problem is the government dont understand the number of people who will arrive here without tickets, Brits can fly to Warszawa and other Polish cities direct very cheaply, alcohol compared to the uk is very cheap here and thousands will come, Warszawa can face an extra 150,000 people and it is not equipped to handle it in any way. No public toilets, no hotels rooms (they are all booked by the media) not enough bars or restaurants, Police who cannot speak foreign languages, public transport not prepared, the list goes on , the problem is what do you do with 55000 people who leave a stadium and want to go for a beer and there isnt room or bars for them to go , who are being herded about by police with a low tolerance level its a recipe for disaster. We are not talking about the olympics this is a football tournament and fans well a minority of them have other issues on the agenda . hooligans of all these teams will be seeking each other and will use the disorganisation to their advantage. Yesterdays draw was disorganised with roads in the centre blocked cars towed away from public parking areas etc etc complete over the top reaction, how can the city or government do that for 3 weeks ? Whilst the tournament is on people still have to work and live here and deal with the chaos the goverment threw at them. Poland could solve this , shuttle buses to ease congestion outside the stadium , huge fans areas in parks with screens and food and bars, stewarded and policed in a friendly manner. Heavy Police prescence in central business areas, educating bar owners to not keep serving alcohol till they start fighting. camps for supporters in parks , thousands of regularly cleaned portable toilets and a ban on fans in business areas stevew

  • Roger - Australia 09.02.2010 06:02 It is true that I would not have an up to date knowledge on what is happening in
Europe as you have no idea what's happening in this part of the world.
I welcome the comments made by those who have criticised me. I have a little more
knowledge of what is happening and the way you think but, I also say to you I am
looking from outside as a neutral and see nothing but negative comments. I am
looking at the comments not the event which has been mentioned. It seems it does
not matter what major sporting event, there are always those who are making negative
comments no matter where and which country is host
To those who say my comments were “ramble” I could say the same about your
    comments.
I am expressing my point of view.
What we hear in Australia is that all of Europe is in an Economic mess
so, what would happen if countries like Germany and England which have been
mentioned would go at hosting Euro 2010 as they have been hit the hardest with the
Economic downturn ? Germany is in a mess as is the UK. The problems mentioned
would apply to any country hosting a major event. It is mentioned “ germany and the
uk organised a euro championships without incidents of major disorder “ I see and
hear that soccer fans no matter where, are the worst as far as drunkenness, disorder
and violence goes compared to other sports. We hear that the UK fans are the worst.
Can I take this is true or is this a beat up by the media ? Are your comments “championships without incidents of major disorder “ true version or the
Governments version ?. If Euro 2010 was held in other countries than Poland and
Ukraine, these same people would make the same negative comments.
The comment “We are not talking about the Olympics this is a football tournament”
It does not matter if it is the Olympics or football tournament the principles are the same. I am taking a wide general view not a one sided view as I see here.
I welcome comments for and against me.
    Roger - Australia
