Sosnowski gets chance at world title

09.03.2010 10:49

Albert Sosnowski will challenge Ukrainian WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko on May 29 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Thirty one year old Sosnowski , the Essex, England-based Polish European heavyweight champion, had previously been scheduled by to fight UK's Audley Harrison for the European championship. But a chance at the world title was just too good to turn down.

“It’s a dream come true,” said the Pole, who has a record of only two losses in 48 fights.

Sosnowski, born in Warsaw, is also pleased that Germany will be hosting the bout. "Many Polish and Germans with Polish roots live in the Gelsenkirchen area and I hope that they will support me.”

Despite Klitschko’s fearsome reputation, Sosnowski was confident of success. “I will be the first Polish heavyweight champion of the world," he said. (pg)
