Polish Renault driver Robert Kubica expects that the German Grand Prix race, which will take place at the Hockenheim circuit on Sunday, will be a real challenge for the team.
It will be Kubica’s second time at the Hockenheim circuit, where he came in seventh in 2008. The Polish driver expects that the race will be a real struggle for the Renault team.
“All the cars we are racing already have an F-duct system and a blown floor, and this makes our life harder because we may have to reduce downforce to be competitive at top speeds, which could cost us in the corners,” Kubica told EuroSport.
The Polish Renault driver noted that, two weeks ago at the Silverstone circuit, he managed to qualify sixth but had to struggle with the grip of the car and, as such, was less competitive. Kubica is afraid that the race at the Hockenheim track may also prove difficult for Renault and assures that even sixth position in the race would satisfy him.
According to Kubica, the choice of tyres for the Sunday Grand Prix race may determine its outcome.
“Bridgestone has opted for the excitement-inducing option of bringing compounds three stages apart on durability chart, i.e., supersoft and hard tyres to Hockenheim. This may pose some difficulties,” Kubica said.
Robert Kubica currently holds 7th position in the global Formula One ranking with 83 points gained in ten races this season. (mg/mmj)
