30.07.2010 13:19

Grzegorz Sudol has won a silver medal in the 50 km race walk at the European Athletic Championships in Barcelona.

Sudol came second in a time of three hours 42 minutes and 24 seconds behind France’s Yohann Diniz, whose time was 3:40.37. Russia’s Sergey Bakulin claimed bronze in 3:43.26.

Sudol first he lurked behind the leaders Yohann Diniz, Sergey Bakulin and Spain’s Jesus Angel Garcia, only to speed up in the middle of the race and take third position.

The silver medal has so far been the greatest success in the 21-year-old Sudol’s career. Last year, the Polish athlete, who has already been hailed the great Robert Korzeniowski’s successor, came forth in the World Championships in Athletics in Berlin.

Sudol’s silver is the second medal of the Polish team in Barcelona. Yesterday, Joanna Wisniewska won bronze in discus throw. (mg)
