'Queen of Polish crime writing' Bonda to be translated

Publishing house Hodder and Stoughton has acquired the rights to a series of crime novels by bestselling author Katarzyna Bonda.

Dubbed the 'queen of Polish crime writing', Bonda is the latest in a string of Polish crime authors to be translated into English, following Marek Krajewski and Zygmunt Miłoszewski, the latter recently nominated for the European Book Prize.
The four-book series acquired by Hodder and Stoughton focuses on crime profiler Sasza Załuska (only two volumes have been published in Polish as of yet).
The first instalment, which has been given the English title of 'Girl at Midnight' ('Pochłaniacz' in Polish), should be out in 2017.
Publisher Nick Sayers has enthused that he was initially intrigued by “the very strong story in the English synopsis – a double time-frame narrative reaching back to the time of Solidarity from a present-day murder case, with a strong female protagonist and lots of twists to the plot.”
London-based agent Sandra Sawicka has said she had been looking for a Polish writer to have translated for some time.
“When I stumbled upon 'Girl at Midnight', I knew this had to be it.
“Bonda is a world-class storyteller, with a strong, fresh voice which pulls you in immediately.” (nh)
