Former Communist leader Jaruzelski back in hospital

General Wojciech Jaruzelski, one of Poland’s last Communist leaders, has been admitted to the Military Institute of Medicine after coming down pneumonia, a side effect of ongoing chemotherapy treatment to fight lymphangioma.
Spokesman for the Military Institute of Medicine, Colonel Piotr Dabrowiecki told journalists on Tuesday that Jaruzelski’s condition “is stable” and is being cared for at the hospital’s haematology ward.
Jaruzelski, who responsible for the imposition of Martial Law in 1981, was admitted to the hospital on 15 September.
General Jaruzelski was first diagnosed with lymphangioma – a malformation of the lymphatic system – back in March, and had to undergo chemotherapy treatment.
Earlier, in December 2010, the former Communist general was treated for pneumonia and heart failure at a hospital in Olsztyn, north-east Poland. (jb)
