Ahead of the talks, Duda told public broadcaster Polish Radio that he wanted his country’s trade with Brazil to grow.

"In many cases, we have the same point of view in terms of politics, regarding ideological issues,” Duda said when interviewed in the Swiss mountain resort.

“We are both conservative politicians,” he added.

Bolsonaro was elected president of Brazil after winning a run-off vote by a comfortable margin over a leftist rival on October 28. He assumed office on January 1.

The Polish foreign minister travelled to Brazil to attend Bolsonaro’s inauguration ceremony. He said at the time that his country aimed to boost political, economic and cultural ties with Brazil.

Bolsonaro was one of a slew of international decision makers Duda was expected to meet during the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, according to the Polish president’s spokesman, Błażej Spychalski.

The gathering of global political and business leaders takes place in the Swiss Alpine town every year in late January.

Duda said in a media interview on Wednesday that Poland's macroeconomic performance, including its robust GDP growth, was making “a huge impression” on business leaders attending the Davos forum.

When he was in Davos last year, the Polish president said he wanted his country to be visible at major gatherings, a presence that would bring business and political benefits.
